Thank you for contacting A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue!

                                                  New website coming:   https://sites.google.com/site/aparrottoaflamingo/

We are so sorry that you need to find a home for your pet bird.  First, are you sure you want to re-home your bird?   If your parrot is a problem bird, have you tried all you can to modify its behavior?  There are lots of websites that give bird training advice, or maybe we can offer you some helpful hints before you make the decision to give your bird up.

Donating your bird to us for rehoming needs to be your FINAL decision.

A-PARROT TO A-FLAMINGO's "JOB":

We do rehoming of  parrots and small pet birds.

Our sanctuary's function is a "safe haven for homeless pet birds".   Keep in mind that our organization is not the actual new home for your parrot.  We are merely a bird's safe stopping off point.  We are not soliciting for parrots for our own possession.  Our "job" is interviewing potential Adopters to rehome your bird / parrot to.

WHAT WE DO

A-Parrot Rescue has many years of experience in finding good homes for parrots.  We would be glad to assist in screening for a new home for your bird(s).   However, your parrot must be turned over to our organization before the rehoming process can begin.

Our parrot  rescue organization takes in most pet cage bird species.  Yes, we will find homes for budgies, cockatiels, and finches too.  Our rescue professionals work diligently to locate the best new home we can find for any bird released to our care.  We are run out of a private home.

INTRODUCTORY INFO

If you are looking for someone to purchase your bird from you, you will need to run an ad.   We take in birds on a donation basis to be rehomed.

Seed or pellets must be dropped off with your bird.  A donation is  requested at drop-off so we can continue to buy more food/pellets/treats for your bird until we find a great home for it.  FYI, it may take a few months to a year to find the perfect home for your macaw.  Birds are not rehomed until the right person applies for the bird.

First, we will need some info on email about the bird you have available for placement. In that email you can request A-Parrot's "Bird Turn-in Form".  Leave us some background info in that first email, and our volunteer will email you back promptly.  Forms are emailed.  After we read over the form, we can let you know if we will be able to take in your bird or parrot.

Email us at: aparrottoaflamingo@danworld.com  (you may have to copy this address)

Please note that our space is limited for large parrots so there may be a waiting list for acceptance of these species.

A-PARROT RESCUE DOES DOES NOT TAKE IN:                    http://aparrottoaflamingoinc.zoomshare.com/files/jumping_budgie.gif

NO wild or outside birds, baby birds fallen out of nests, farm birds, game birds, swans, peacocks, toucans, mynahs, lories, doves, pigeons.  But we may be able to assist you with a referral.

THIS IS A NO-KILL ORGANIZATION

A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue, Inc.  is a No-Kill organization.  Age of a parrot does not usually matter.  We do not consider 20+ year old parrots as  birds ready to be put down because of their advanced age.

However, just because we state that A-Parrot is No-Kill, this does not mean that we will accept  sick birds or those in questionable health.  We will not assume your responsibility for vet checking your ill parrot.  We do not have the funds for taking in sick birds that need to be rushed to the vet right away.

Also, if your bird is feather plucking, the owner must give us a copy of a recent vet check noting the bird is free of disease first.  Inquire.

 PARROT PERSONALITIES

A-Parrot Rescue will accept older, not tame, noisey, and some hard-to-place parrots. Of course, young/tame parrots are also welcome.  Since we have very limited funding, all birds must be in good health and physical condition to be considered "placeable" by our organization. We do not "rehab" or train problem birds.  They are rehomed "as is" to an experienced parrot owner who is willing to work with the bird.

TURN-IN FORM TO FILL IN  (emailed separately on request)

This form requires detail about your bird.  We need this form filled in prior to making an appt. to drop off your bird with A-Parrot Rescue.  A picture of the bird being turned in is also helpful.  The more info we have from you, the sooner and the better the home we can locate for it.

**To request a copy of the Turn-In form, email us, include brief info about your bird, species, age, and why it needs a new home.  We will email you back promptly.**

Some questions you may have....

 OUR ADOPTION POLICIES

A-Parrot Rescue does our best to find all species of birds the best home we can, matching up parrots to people so both are happy with each other.   Our aim is to find a good match (for bird and human).

Our Adopters have a strict adoption policy to follow to be considered for adopting a parrot.  Our detailed interviewing process takes up a lot of our time, and sometimes we have to hold birds a little longer to find just that right person to re-home the bird to.  But actually that is a good thing since birds are not rushed out of our care to "iffy" homes.

A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue is very concerned about the welfare of any bird turned over to us.  You will eliminate the possibility of dealing with a bird  "abuser"  or "reseller"  or just someone who knows nothing about parrot care or ownership by allowing us to screen for a new home for your parrot.

We locate pet homes, not breeder homes, for any bird turned over to A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue.

HOW DO I GET MY BIRD TO A-PARROT RESCUE?

Our location is in Brecksville, Ohio 44141, just outside of Independence, Ohio between Cleveland and Akron.  Exact address will be supplied at time of drop-off, by appointment, please.

You must be able to bring the bird to us personally.  We will take in parrots from any State, as long as you are able to bring the bird to us.   Shipping birds is not safe.  We appreciate the cage with the bird, although we do have a supply of small to large table-top cages if this is not possible.  We may or may not have an extra large iron cage on hand.  We try to make sure all birds go out with proper-sized cages.

CAN I CONSULT / APPROVE WHO GETS MY BIRD?

No.  We will take your suggestions into consideration, but please understand that A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Parrot Rescue's Board of Directors makes all placement decisions. However, we will do our best to follow the info you supply us to match up your parrot with the new Adopter the best we can.

WILL A-PARROT START LOOKING FOR A HOME FOR MY BIRD WHILE I STILL OWN IT?

No.  A-Parrot Rescue will NOT start interviewing for a new home for any bird until it is signed over to us and the bird is at our Brecksville location..  Please understand that A-Parrot Rescue just cannot go to all the work of locating a good home for a "potential" turn-in and then have an owner change their mind about turning their parrot over to us.  This wastes our time and holds back other rescue parrots in our possession from finding homes.

Turning over your bird to us has to be your FINAL decision, also.

PLACEMENT UPDATES

Previous owners may not "visit" their bird after releasing it to A-Parrot Rescue's care.  Please understand that the bird will need to re-bond with its new owner soon.  Our rescue birds are temporarily fostered in private homes in the Cleveland area.

However, you may email Fran and request a few e-mail updates (within reason) after drop-off, and she would be glad to give you a report.   Also we can give you one update after your bird is placed, if you email us your request at a later date.

CAN I GET MY BIRD BACK LATER IF I CHANGE MY MIND?

No.  We will only take in your bird/parrot if it is your FINAL DECISION to have A-Parrot Rescue start the re-homing process for you.

Please really think over your decision if you want to give up your pet.  You can contact Fran if you need a suggestion on how to work with any of your parrot's quirks first.  Email her.  Your bird will not be returned back to you at a later date if you change your mind and want it back.

In case our return policy becomes an issue, A-Parrot Rescue reserves the right to charge the previous owner a daily "boarding fee".   However,  it is impossible to return birds that have already been placed.

WHO GETS MY BIRD?

If you release your parrot to A-Parrot Rescue's care, you will have to trust us to take the time to locate a proper new home for your bird.  We prefer to adopt out all parrots to an adult who owns parrots now.  We spend a lot of time interviewing possible applicants in order to locate the best home we can find.  Our Board of Directors will deny all non-appropriate applicants.   All birds are fostered with us in private homes with parrot owners, under the care of A-Parrot to A-Flamingo's organization.

A-Parrot Rescue places all birds into permanent loving private homes, with families, or wonderful adults willing to give your parrot/bird all the attention, medical care, love, and interaction it requires.

Due to space limitations, we are not a permanent-place sanctuary for non-placeable parrots.   When the right person is approved, your parrot will be rehomed.

HOW SOON WILL MY BIRD BE PLACED?

We cannot give you a definite length of time it will take to locate a home for your bird.  Guessing, it may be between 1-6 months, or could be longer.  The tamer and younger the bird is, the faster it finds a home.   But all parrots are safe with us till that time.  It all depends on when we can locate the best home we feel is right for your parrot.  A-Parrot will deny all non-qualified applications..

BIRDS NEED TO BOND IN THEIR NEW HOME SOON

A-Parrot Rescue wants the re-bonding process to begin with the new owner. Our agency does not "rehab" parrots.  We sincerely believe that rehabbing birds really stresses them out for their new home.   We prefer the re-bonding process to begin with the bird's new owner, not anyone on our staff.

THE HEALTH OF YOUR BIRD

We accept healthy birds only.  Small birds in bad feather condition are not accepted.  If your parrot is in questionable feather condition, please give us the detail.  We may require you to have it vet checked (at your expense) prior to A-Parrot Rescue taking it in to make sure it is free of disease..

Any bird that appears at our door in questionable condition, feather picked, crippled, obviously sick (without the problem first being explained on the turn-in form) will be turned away.  This has rarely happened, but everyone considering bringing a bird to us needs to know this in advance.

We have limited space for large macaws or large cockatoos.

THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING A MONETARY (UPKEEP) DONATION

OTHER ITEMS WE NEED
